Influences

I was introduced into sound engineering thanks to working with the late Al Hodge from Cornwall.  His ability and love of writing & performing really grabbed my attention musically and strongly influenced my appreciation of a wide range of music.  Over the last 15 years I have really been grabbed by the music of Pink Floyd and after sharing this enjoyment with close friends and analysing the lyrics and musical ability of the performers I don’t think it will ever age.

Musical Taste
I should say that I now have the widest taste in music ever.  Apart from the obvious appreciation of Pink Floyd, I also enjoy music from various artists including....
Barry White, Morcheeba, The Eagles, Jimmy Nail & Simple Minds.  Basically I will give anything a listen.

Favourite food and drink
My favourite food has to be a nice blue steak.  I cant go too many days without my veg or I get really grumpy.  Love the odd curry.  I’ll try anything apart from liver!!!!!!!.
If I’m having a drinking session it has to be Vodka & Orange (the less orange the better), followed by medium Piesporter wine or Baileys.

Favourite Film
I don’t usually have much time to watch films, but my favourite ones to date are ‘Without A Paddle’, ‘Saving Grace’ and I’m also a bit of a Star Trek fan.

First Single bought
Not sure on this one as age prevents me from remembering that sort of incriminating history.

Background
I don’t actually play any instruments but have always been interested in lighting and sound from an early age (Late Primary School). Would like to learn to play the guitar sometime when I eventually find myself short of something to do. I started to get involved in the live music industry in 1989, when I worked for a band that were well known in Plymouth at the time by the name of Karrallon. I soon took the position of their lighting designer and worked for them for a number of years until they split. At the time of the split I approached the bank and obtained a business loan to buy their lighting equipment and continue working alone as a lighting engineer.
As time went by I started to work occasionally for Plymouth’s Rock City stage crew and began to work on the larger shows including M-People, Torvill & Dean Ice Show,  Megadeth, Garry Glitter, Barry Manilow and Eternal. During this period I also started working for "Captain Courageous Music Management" touring with a band called "Electrasy" who were a signed band entering the charts and trying to get a following around various areas of the UK. The live entertainment dried up a little in Plymouth and I took on the role of Sound Engineer for a Cornish Musician/Songwriter Al Hodge. He worked with some larger artists including Leo Sayer, Elkie Brooks and was also well known for composing music for TV and radio.
I worked for Al for several years and then took a break from the scene as I had relocated to Torbay and started a rather different life.
After a while I decided to get back into the live scene and I went to see "In the Flesh" performing at the Spinning Wheel in Paignton.  I noticed they were mixing from stage and I approached them after the gig about the possibilty of us working together and "hey presto"......here I am.

Paul is also responsible for the Stage Production
